Taking Care of your Tattoo
Your Tattoo will probably look healed a week and a half to two weeks after getting it, but in reality, your tattoo will take anywhere from six to eight weeks to fully heal. Immediately after getting your tattoo, you will be bandaged, keep the bandage on for 2-3 hours, and then have a hot shower. This will help to cut back on the amount of leakage. Do not leave your tattoo bandaged for any more than 5 hrs, your tattoo needs air to heal properly.
To avoid scabbing try to wipe off any excess blood form your tattoo before it dries, with a warm, wet washcloth.
For 3 nights after you get your tattoo cover it with a bandage before you go to bed. Your bed is full of dust mites and other little surprises that can irritate your tattoo. Wash your tattoo 3-5 times a day with regular soap and water for about 2-3 weeks after the application. After washing your tattoo, apply a light coating of a non grease based lotion (Aquaphor, Vitamin A & D ointment, Vitamin E oil, Lubriderm or any hand lotion that doesn't contain Aloe Vera) Make sure you work the lotion in well, so you don't suffocate the tattoo. Too much lotion can cause excessive scabbing.
Avoid tanning, swimming, baths, saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms for at least a month after getting tattooed. Avoid any kind of Alcohol for 24 hrs before and after getting tattooed.
